Creating with women

Sonia Choquette, internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, intuitive guide, and author says, “Creative expression turns one’s attention away from the chaos of the outer world, to focus inwardly for a time. The highest, most joyful expression of the Divine Spirit within all of us is through the expression of our creativity. Nothing is more powerful, nothing is more self-loving, and nothing is more rewarding than spending your time in a creative and artful endeavor.”

My artful endeavors include:

  • organizing home shows and pop-up events that feature locally based and internationally acclaimed women artists
  • creativity workshops where spirit dolls, soul collage, mandalas and more are made
  • a women’s group: (formed in 1994) that meets to this day to explore our inner and outer worlds together
  • “Field trips” for the group: walking the labyrinth at Fourbear under the guidance of Jack Case was deeply meaningful. You can find details at: www.labyrinthtraveler.com
  • designing one of a kind dolls using vintage textiles, silks, lace, jewels, and more
  • doll making workshops: creating dolls in groups with intent. Recently in a workshop, a group of women wanted to explore the Wise Woman Archetype by creating a Crone doll. Another group, inspired by Vasalina, the tiny pocket doll featured in “Women Who Run with the Wolves”, honored their intuitive voice by creating their tiny clay and fabric talisman. In Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ best-selling book, Women Who Run with the Wolves, she states, “Dolls are believed to be infused with life by their makers. They are used as markers of authority and talismans to remind one of one’s own power. The doll represents the inner spirit of us as women; the voice of inner reason, inner knowing, and inner consciousness.”

    TESTIMONIALS

"Becky Becker's Sunday Solace creative sessions were a beacon of light and joy!  Gathering with creative souls to imagine, create, and share the love of making things was both a nurturing and a healing experience. I love engaging with Becky and the wondrousness of her imaginative expressions. I particularly resonated with her "Daughter, Damsel, Dragon, Dream" series... I incorporated the essence of this energy while creating my mandala dragon... I look forward to the next opportunity I have to join one of Becky's creative sessions."

"Puppets, dollmaking, and fanciful fiber art, Becky brings her unique perspective and expertise to the workshops she teaches! Adult participants, enjoying the thrill of discovery, enhance their creations with vintage lace, jewels, fur, and buttons. Oh yes, the workshop experience often includes stories and myths that add to a meaningful takeaway.

The Southern Samplers, as we like to call ourselves, look forward to coming Home to Charleston, Folly Beach, and the Lowcountry every April, knowing that Becky, arms open, is waiting! The company is everything!"

“If you have wanted to explore your creative side in a most gentle and encouraging way, set your sights on one of Becky Becker’s imaginary adventures and watch what happens. In a small group setting, Becky put a little ball of clay in our hands, surrounded us with ribbon, fabric, feathers, and natures bounties and a miracle happened. My spirited little being sits proudly on my mantle and brings a smile or two everytime she catches my eye. It doesn’t get much better than that and what a wonderful gift to myself! Thanks Becky!!”

“Becky’s workshop was a lot of fun, and it brought out the best for me. I’m not a person who does crafts very often, so it was kind of a big deal for me to participate in the workshop. Becky just did a beautiful job of creating an environment that felt comfortable. I relaxed and enjoyed myself. Then, ended up making a spirit doll (or spirit totem) that pleased and surprised me!”

“Loved that day! You have a wonderful way of guiding people through the doll making (sculptures, figurines) process by encouraging imagination and the best uses of materials to create an original work. You openly share your knowledge and talents – everyone is better for it.”
